Windows 10 End of Life 2025: Upgrade, Replace, or Switch?
Windows 10 support ends October 14 2025. Protect your business before it’s too late.
Recently, cybercriminals have been using fake CAPTCHA tests to trick people into installing harmful software on their computers. A CAPTCHA is a simple test, like selecting certain images, used by websites to ensure you’re not a robot. However, some malicious websites are misusing this feature to deceive users.
How the Scam Works
Visit a Malicious Website: You might land on a website offering free movies, music, or articles.
Encounter a Fake CAPTCHA: The site prompts you to complete a CAPTCHA to proceed.
Follow Dangerous Instructions: After the CAPTCHA, you’re given steps that seem routine but are actually harmful:
Press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog box.
Press Ctrl + V to paste content (which the website has secretly copied to your clipboard).
Press Enter to execute the command.
By following these steps, you unknowingly run a command that installs malware, such as information-stealing software, on your computer.
Protect Yourself
Be Skeptical: Avoid following unexpected instructions from unfamiliar websites.
Use Security Software: Install reputable antivirus programs that can block malicious sites and scripts.
Disable JavaScript on Untrusted Sites: This can prevent malicious scripts from running, though it may affect website functionality.
